Ibn's 1st Trial Class

Next Monday, 15 October 2007 will be a breakthrough for ibn. He is going for a view of a playgroup class at Tumble Tots @ Tampines Sports Hall. I am very excited as what his response will be looking at other kids engaging in activities. We are looking into a 2-3classes/week for him, as recommended by the SLT. When I racqueed for 2-3 day class per week, it seemed impossible now. Even Apple Tree that started up with 2-3 days/week are now running as daily programme.

In the class
The class that we viewed with Ibn was meant for his age. The youngest is an 18month African-Chinese boy who is still adjusting in his separation anxiety. His maid was there to accompany him for about 15-30minutes before class starts.

However, some of the older children(born in 2005) will be "with him" if he is enrolled there in the daily programme.

Ibn's response - Well, well, well. Though ibn is more responsive to us at home, it seemed that he is yet to overcome the stranger anxiety feeling. Throughout the time that we were there, he kept clinging to Abi although there were few occasions in which we attempted and pushed him to join the class. However, there were some actions that he imitated from the class at home. This indeed has an positive impact on him.

What to anticipate when he is enrolled in a playgroup programme? Mainly separation anxiety which will be followed up with nightmares. I hope he will be fine and I will be fine too if we decided to enrol him in any programme(required mental preparation as a mother being separated from a crying and struggling child). It is a matter of time that ibn will get adjusted to any new environment.
