Habib Umar Bin Hafiz @ Al-Wehdah

Alhamdulillah, me and my family and some friends of mine managed to attend the last Majlis Ilm of Habib Umar Bin Hafiz before he make his way to Batu Pahat, Malaysia to visit Habib Ali. I'm going to miss him dearly. This few days, I felt that I am in a different place altogether each time I attended his Majlis Ilm. My heart felt so light, as if all burdens are lifted when I looked upon the Habaibs and Alims accompanying Habib Umar Bin Hafiz. May Allay swt give strength to all of us to follow whatever advices and reminders that has been delivered by Habib Umar. May Allah swt gave us a chance to meet him again in the future.

Again I would apologize for any errors and shortcomings on the summary I have written below. feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Title: Attributes of a believer

Our religion is the most valuable posession a person can have. The many achievements and progress of mankind is all due to Allah swt permission. The world is full of changes. The changes that lead to evil and wrongdoings are due to deeds of some men. These negative changes in return affect the majority of men, whether they are believers or non-believers.

In the past, Islam does spread in a world full of idol worshippers. However, the small number of Muslims (9 of them) had a great effect to the non-believers due to their excellent character. The number of Muslims then increases many folds. The role model for these Muslims is none other than Rasulullah saw. Rasulullah saw is a perfect model to follow in all ages. Follow him and our sins will be forgiven and Allah will love us. Learn the methodology of da’wah from Rasulullah saw. With his examples, his rahmah and love, Islam spreads successfully.

The person who hurt most Rasulullah saw is Abu Jahal. However, that does not stop Rasulullah saw from showing rahmat to him. Rasul saw saved Abu Jahal from the hole-trap that is meant for him. If we look at how Rasulullah saw handle Abu Jahal, we would found many ways how to deal with our enemy in proper ways.

At one time Rasulullah saw fell asleep under a tree, an enemy gets a sword and is about to strike him when Rasulullah saw wakes up. The kafirun then ask, “Who protects you?” “Allah”, answered Rasulullah saw. The kafirun trembles and drops the sword. “Who then protects you?” Rasulullah saw further asked. “No one.”, replied the Kafirun. Rasulullah saw then forgives him and asked him to return to his tribe. The Kafirun then returns to his tribe and convinces his tribe to convert to Islam. Rasulullah saw’s rahmah is the reason behind taufiq and hidayah reaching the tribe.

In the past, there is this battle-unbeatable tribe. When asked by Rasulullah saw what their secret is. They answered the following. They don't commit injustice. They will restore rights to the weak and oppressed. They consult one another on many matters. And lastly they are loyal to their leader. Rasulullah saw then agrees to these answers.

There is nothing stronger than unity based on the Religion of Allah swt. The early Arab Muslims learned that strength is in the unity of the Ummah. In unity, there is compassion between one another. Allah swt help is with the righteous united Jemaah. Allah swt says in a Hadith Qudsi which roughly means, “My love is a certainty for those who love one another (in many ways) and in no way we be divided”.

Two examples how Rasul saw benefits those who are far or near.

An example how Rasulullah saw benefits those who are far from him: A leader of a fierce tribe is captured and detained. Given food and drink, he observed Rasulullah saw and his Sahabats goes through their daily ibadah in the mosque. He was released and he embraces Islam. He then went Makkah for Umrah. Abu Jahal drives him away but then this sahabah stopped food from reaching Makkah (an embargo). It is through Rasulullah saw, that this Sahabat lifted the embargo. Hence the people of Makkah manage to eat comfortably again by the decision influenced by the Prophet saw.

An example how Rasulullah saw benefits those who are near to him: One day Rasulullah saw went out to buy clothing and took 8 dirhams with him. He gave 4 dirhams to a crying slave woman who have lost her money to buy groceries that her master asked her to buy. 2 dirhams were given to a poor man who much needed the money. He then proceeded to buy clothing. But the clothing itself was given to another person in need. While Rasulullah saw was walking, he saw the same slave woman crying again. The slave woman, when asked, told Rasulullah saw that she fears that her master will scold her because of her lateness in delivering the groceries. Rasulullah saw then followed her home. On reaching the house, Rasulullah saw gave three salams. Two of the salams are answered in silence while the thids was answered loud enough for Rasulullah saw to hear. When asked by Rasulullah saw why the two salams were answered silently, the house-owner replied that they wanted Rasulullah saw to doa three times in total. The house owner at the same time frees the slave woman from slavery in honour of Rasulullah saw visiting them.

How the light of Islam and Rasulullah saw can be seen by the non-believers if we don't have it in ourselves?

Practice Islam and spread Islamic teachings to those who are not here tonight. Never forget to educate our family members. Do not ever have negative thoughts on Allah swt’s actions and taqdir. Seek help from Allah swt in all tasks as Allah is most Great, most High and most Powerful.
